Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey Classic Drives Vision for Local Children’s Cancer Care Forward with Support from Professional Hockey Players

Grand River Hospital Foundation and Scotland’s Yard rally community support ahead of the first ever Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey Classic with the help of local NHL, OHL and professional players

KITCHENER, June 30, 2022 — Grand River Hospital Foundation today announced the launch of the Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey Classic silent auction, one of the many ways Grand River Hospital Foundation and Scotland’s Yard are encouraging community members to support the upcoming all-ages street hockey tournament.

Highlights from the auction include hockey sticks signed by Ben Chiarot and Dylan Larkin, a signed Auston Matthews poster and numerous signed jerseys, including a Montreal Canadiens #8 Chiarot Jersey signed by Ben Chiarot and the 2021-22 team. The complete silent auction collection is available at http://syhockey.ca, and bidding will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on July 8, 2022.

Community members are also encouraged to donate to registered teams to help them reach their fundraising goals and attend the tournament to cheer them on. Ten professional hockey players will be in attendance to coach the teams that raise the most money, and all of the funds raised will support pediatric cancer care at Grand River Hospital — a part of the Scotland’s Yard vision to make comprehensive children’s cancer care a reality in Kitchener-Waterloo.

“Most people don’t realize that when children need cancer care, families have to travel for treatment outside Waterloo Region, and I have witnessed my good friends Joy and Brian go through these difficulties with their daughter Scottie,” said Jacqueline Chiarot, Honourary Co-Chair of the Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey Classic. “I am so excited that Scotland’s Yard is bringing the community together to get local kids the cancer care they need and deserve.”

Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey Classic, powered by HockeyFest, will take place on Friday, July 8, 2022 at Catalyst137, 137 Glasgow Street, Kitchener, ON, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Spectators are invited to attend, and food trucks and food and beverages provided by Graffiti Market will also be available onsite throughout the event.

More information, including event details, a list of attending professional players, silent auction items and team donation pages, can be found on the Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey Classic website at http://syhockey.ca
