Help support advanced cancer patients during treatment
From October 21 to November 12, join the W Booth School of Engineering Practice and Technology, in the Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University in raising at least $3,000 to support patient care initiatives for chemotherapy patients at the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre (GRRCC).
Honouring Tom Lee: A Legacy of Leadership and Courage
Tom Lee joined the W Booth School of Engineering Practice and Technology as the W. Booth Endowed Chair for Engineering Entrepreneurship and Innovation in 2021. Very soon he became an integral member and assumed leadership roles, serving as the Program Lead for the Master of Engineering Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MEEI) from January 2021 and then Associate Director of Graduate Programs from July 2022. Following a sudden advanced cancer diagnosis in 2022, Tom made the painful decision to retire from his position in July 2023.
Although his tenure was short, Tom became known for his leadership, creativity, and dedication to students, and Tom became an integral and beloved figure in the Booth and McMaster community.
In April 2022, Tom was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer and in spite of aggressive treatment, his illness progressed to stage four metastatic cancer by the end of 2023. Today, Tom is undergoing palliative chemotherapy at the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre (GRRCC) in Kitchener, ON. In spite of his health challenges, Tom has continued to expand his connection to the community through on-going fundraising and outreach initiatives.
Throughout his treatment journey, Tom has found comfort in the care he receives at GRRCC. The support and resources available to patients during this challenging time are vital. In honor of Tom's bravery, we aim to raise $3,000 to enhance patient care initiatives at GRRCC, contributing to the ongoing compassionate care that patients deserve.
